8 Tips to Getting and Keeping White Teeth {Guest Post}

Everyone wants to have that big white smile that lights up a room.  Unfortunately, keeping those pearly whites is not always easy.  Just like anything if you want them to looking nice you will need to invest some time maintaining them.  Here are 8 healthy tips to keep those pearly whites shining.

1)  Keep a Friendly Diet.  Certain foods will promote a healthy smile.  A healthy diet will help develop a healthy enamel on your teeth.  For starters choose foods that are rich in Calcium.  Some good examples are yogurt, cheese, and low-fat milk.  Being conscious of your calcium intake will help protect you from cavities and other unsightly tooth decay.

Hard cheese is another good healthy smile helper.  Hard cheese helps neutralize the acids in your mouth, which prevents excessive wear on the enamel.

2) Keep it Crunchy.  Crunchy fruits and vegetables  are known to clean the teeth and remove stains over time.  Additionally they help produce saliva which helps to neutralize bad bacteria in the mouth.

They are considered safe on the enamel, as well as a healthy snack.  So put away the chips and pull out the carrots.  Some good choices are carrots, apples, celery, and pears.

3) Buy Some Whitening Gels and Creams.  You may think that these were snake oil, like many of the other fraudulent health products on the market.  But give them a chance, these really work.  If you use teeth whitening gel, make sure to use it every day for two weeks to see the results.  You can also go to the dentist to get your teeth whitened.  The process takes about 1 hour and can be a little costly, the over-the-counter solutions work nearly as well.

4) Break Out the Apple Cider Vinegar.  Yes, I know it’s tastes gross.  But hey, no pain no gain right!  Every morning gargle the apple cider vinegar for 20 seconds.  This works to remove stains and kill harmful bacteria in your mouth.

5)Make Baking Soda Your Best Friend.  So go pull it out of your laundry room and put it in your bathroom.  Brushing twice a week with baking soda will help get rid of stains and make for a striking smile.  But make sure you do not swallow the baking soda, just spit it out as you would if it were tooth paste.

6) Say No to Red Wine, Cigarettes, and Coffee.  These are 3 deadly sins for maintaining white teeth.   No amount of whitening strips, gels, or bleaches will ever be able to whiten a cigarette smoking, wine guzzling, coffee drinker.  So make your teeth whitening venture easier and give up these items.

7) Brush with Berries.  Ok, just don’t let someone walk in on you when you are doing this, or they will think you are crazy. But it works, strawberries are a natural teeth whitener.  So grind up a small amount of strawberries and put them on your tooth brush and start brushing away.

8 ) Get a Tan.  Nope this won’t make your teeth whiter, but it will make your skin darker.  Put a little contrast against those white teeth.  After all your hard work so far, a little tan can set off those pearly whites in a way nothing else can.
