Jam Session with Our New LeapFrog Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar {Review}

My girls are really into music.  Every time someone asks what they should get them for a gift, my answer is always, “anything that plays music”.  They love to dance, but they love it more when they can be the one actually making the music.   So when the LeapFrog Rockin’ Guitar arrived at my house, I knew it was going to be a hit.

Designed for kids ages 3 and up, the Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar, helps preschoolers develop motor skills while they rock out.   It has 10 built in songs, including such hits as, Itsy Bitsy Spider, If You’re Happy and You Know It, and Pop Goes the Weasel.  What?  Those aren’t hits?  They are in my house.  If you wish to call them anything other than hits, you’re going to have to argue with my 3 year old.  The guitar gives you the options of playing solo, with a band, and can even choose electric/ acoustic options.  Kids can make a silly by adding funny sound effects or strum the cords faster, or they can choose to be a serious artist by adding drum sounds as their background.  And of course, there’s a button to touch for applause at the very end of your little one’s performance.

Greenleigh loved this toy the second she laid eyes on it.  I hadn’t even put the guitar strap on yet and she was trying to figure out how to play the music.  Before I knew it she was singing and dancing in our living room.  Naturally, that lead to Hazeline wanting to try it out (please excuse the look of the living room, moving boxes are slowly taking over…now if only the boxes were packed).

And you know a toy is a winner when Greenleigh wants to take it to school with her, which is exactly what she wanted to do today.  Don’t worry, I didn’t actually let that happen, but she did play the guitar all the way to school.

Greenleigh likes this toy for the lights and music, but as a mom, I like this guitar because it’s a toy that she can grow with.  It has so many different features, that it’s going to take a little time for her to learn them all.  But it’s a fun learning game that keeps her mind working, while incorporating music.  At this point she doesn’t even know all the different options that it offers, but she will.  Give her time.

But there’s more!  Leap Frong is holding a contest to find the best video of kids jamming and learning on their Touch Magic Rockin’ Guitar!  Entries are open from August 1, 2012 – November 30, 2012, and will be judged on their total number of votes from the website, creativity, and theme.  The 5 videos with the highest number of votes from the website and LeapFrong Panel will have a chance at winning a $500 gift card!  Learn more about this contest by visiting  http://touchmagic.leapfrog.com  Good luck everyone!
