“If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie” Debuts This Friday on Amazon + Christmas Crinkle Cookie Recipe!

christmas-crinkle-cookie-recipeIt’s been hard to focus this week.  Between Thanksgiving tomorrow and Christmas festivities officially starting the day after that, there’s an excitement in the air that’s made it hard to head into an office each day.  I’d much rather be sitting at home, next to my Christmas tree (yes, it’s already up!), stringing popcorn garland and watching Christmas movies.  My kids would agree.  Despite the fun, Thanksgiving-themed activities going on in their classrooms this week, they’re craving Christmas the same way that I am.  Lucky for us, the day after Thanksgiving, November 25, ushers in so many fun Christmas events, including If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie an original holiday special debuting on Amazon.

If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, I’m sure you’ve heard me talk about my love for the classic If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, but If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie is an all new animated adventure for Mouse with a holiday twist.  My kids can’t wait (and neither can I!).  Check out the trailer:

Featuring the same “if…then” narrative as the original, If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie explores traditions  at Mouse’s house over the holiday, including caroling, holiday pageants, and, of course, Christmas Cookies (including a special one for Santa)!  This endearing animated special follows Mouse on an epic holiday adventure to save their nearly-destroyed Christmas pageant before it’s too late.  It’s a wild ride as Mouse and his friends struggle to stay focused and save the show, while reinforcing for young viewers the friendship and caring that’s at the heart of the holiday season.christmas-cookie-art

If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie stars Mason Mahay (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie), Roger Craig Smith (Avengers Assemble, Wreck-It Ralph), Jessica DiCiccio (Over the Hedge), Jeff Bennett (Futurama), and Lara Jill Miller (The Loud House, Henry Hugglemonster, Doc McStuffins).  It will also feature an original song by Lisa Loeb called “Christmas Cookie Song,” which will be available exclusively on Amazon Music to download and stream November 25.

I was actually so excited about the premiere of If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie that I decided to whip up my very first Christmas cookies of the season a little early.  Because the only way to watch If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie is with a plate full of Christmas cookies to share with your family and friends.  These cookies are delicious and so easy to make!  They’ll be your new holiday favorite in no time!christmas-crinkle-cookies-with-milk

You will need:
1 (17.64 oz) box Duncan Hines Holiday Velvets cake mix (one green pouch, one red pouch)
2 teaspoons baking powder, divided
2 eggs, divided
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract, divided
1/2 cup canola oil, divided
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup powdered sugar

Step 1 – Preheat oven to 325°. Line a large baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.

Step 2 – In a large mixing bowl, add the pouch of red velvet cake mix, 1 teaspoon baking powder, 1/4 cup oil, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 egg. Stir until well combined.

Step 3 – Cover and chill for 30 minutes for easier handling.

Step 4 – Once chilled, roll the dough into 2 inch balls and dip into a shallow bowl of granulated sugar. Next, dip the dough ball into a shallow bowl of powdered sugar and cover completely. Place on lined baking sheet.

Step 5 – Bake for 8-10 minutes. Wait 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to completely cool. (Leave oven on for baking the green crinkle cookies).

Step 6 – Sprinkle additional powdered sugar on top of the cookies, if desired.red-green-christmas-crinkle-cookies

Once you’re done with the red velvet cookies, repeat the same process using the pouch of green velvet mix.  Then sit back, relax with your family, and tune into If You Give a Mouse a Christmas Cookie on Amazon on November 25!  Enjoy!christmas-crinkle-cookies-tutorial
