Summer Drinks: Mermaid Water Cocktail {Recipe}

Mermaid water recipeTomorrow is the last day of school.  I’m beyond excited.  In fact, I might be more excited than the kids.  Tomorrow is the last day of alarms set for 6am, the last day of scrambling to figure out on the school cafeteria menu, and the last day of sitting in the dreaded car line…well, for a while at least.  I don’t know about you, but this mom needs a break.  And I can think of no better way to kick off summer vacation than with a cocktail.

Years ago, a good friend introduced me to a drink that she called a “Mermaid Water Cocktail”.  I had never heard of anything like it before, but quickly fell in love.  It’s light and tropical and delicious, all the tastes you look for in the summer cocktail, plus a greenish-blue hue that will have you yearning for a trip to the beach.  Mermaid Water Drink RecipeA bit stronger than water, of course, but perfect for those days when you want to celebrate, whether it be the last day of school, the first days of summer, vacation, or, well, anything.  And it’s so easy to prepare that you don’t need a special occasion, just a few simple ingredients that you probably already have in your bar.  This recipe is a can’t miss for summertime!

You will need:
1 1/2 oz Vodka
1oz of Rum
1oz of Midori
1oz of Blue Curcao
3oz Pineapple juice
3oz Orange juice
Lime juice
Marchino cherries for garnish

Step 1 – Pour vodka, rum, Midori, and Blue Curcao in a cocktail shaker, along with 3-4 pieces of ice.  Shake quickly to combine.

Step 2 – Pour your mixed liquors into the glass filled 3/4 of the way with ice.

Optional – Coat the rim of your glass with green and blue sugar, by dipping it in a small amount of water and then immediately into sugar.  This isn’t necessary, but look really nice if you’re serving these cocktails to friends at a party.

Step 3 – Top glass with your pineapple juice, followed by your orange juice.

Step 4 – Add a splash of fresh squeezed lime juice and garnish with Cherries.  Sip and enjoy with friends! Mermaid water drink tutorialHappy Summer!
