3 Quick & Easy Back to School Hairstyles from SoCozy

Thank you to SoCozy for sponsoring this post.  I was provided with the SoCozy products pictured below in order to facilitate my review.  As always, all thoughts and opinions contained in this post are my own.SoCozy Back to School Hairstyles

If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you know I was born without the hairstyling gene.  You know, that gene that allows people to do wonderful, amazing things with hair?  Yeah, I don’t have it.  And while I was able to keep this deficiency a secret before I was a mom, it was brought front and center when I was blessed with not just one, but two, little girls…both of whom want their hair styled on a daily basis.  So when SoCozy offered to send me a few of their amazing hair care products, I happily accepted.  I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them (and had considered drafting a warning to SoCozy outlining my limitations), but I figured it might be fun to attempt a few new styles.

When my package arrived, it was clear that SoCozy had me covered.  Not only did they send me their Cinch 2 in 1 Shampoo + Body Wash in Guav-o-rama, Cinch Super Hydrating Conditioner in Berry-Whip, Cinch Detangler + Leave-In Conditioner in Fruity-tutti, and Behave Styling Mouse Medium Hold in Peachy-keen, they also sent me SoCozy’s Guide to Girls’ Hair. SoCozy Hair Products & Guide to Girls' Hair

An entire book on hair!  Outlining everything hair related from baby to big girl, this book has details on styling products, insight into styling tools, and ways to get and keep your child’s hair healthier than it’s ever been.  I was excited about all the SoCozy products (mainly because they all smelled so good!), but I was really excited about this book. SoCozy Open BookMy favorite part?  Step by step directions on exactly how to create hairstyles.  Quick hairstyles.  Formal hairstyles.  Fun hairstyles.  Styles for curly hair.  Styles for straight hair.  You name it, it’s in here.  All of it.  In full color with simple steps and diagrams.  They even tell you at the top of each page what type of hair you need for a given style.

SoCozy Book

So about a week ago, we started using the SoCozy products and trying some of the new styles.  The results were pretty amazing.  My girls loved the smell of the SoCozy products and the size of the bottles seemed perfect for them to be able to use on their own.  I love that the SoCozy products feature extracts from natural ingredients like hops, rosemary, and aloe, while being free from harmful chemicals and toxins.  I don’t have to worry about them while they use these products.  SoCozy hair care products are designed with cleansers, styling essentials, and naturally effective lice solutions,   Their hair is shiny and smooth, and whatever tangles exist after bathtime can be handled by the Cinch Detangler.  Did I mention that amazing smell?  Really, they all smell pretty darn delicious.

And the hairstyles?  Well they were pretty successful, too – you know, for someone without a hairstyling gene.  There were tons of styles for my girls to chose from, each highlighting their unique personalities.  Here are a few of my favorites from the book:

The (Double) TwistSoCozy The Double Twist

This is the perfect you’re-running-late-and-need-to-get-out-the-door-quick style.  I put the word “double” in parenthesis because I do this one as a single.  Hazeline has an off to the side part, so just one twist is sufficient to pull all that hair that would be in her face, off to the side.  It’s simple but beautiful, and a snap to put in.  All you’ll need is a brush, comb, a barrette, and a little SoCozy Cinch Detangler.

Step 1: Brush hair until smooth and part hair.  If your child’s hair is wet (this style can be done wet or dry) place a small amount of SoCozy Cinch Detangler in your child’s hair.  This will make the hair smooth and much easier to twist!

Step 2: Gather a small section of hair, approximately 1 inch wide, and begin to gently twist in a clockwise direction, staying close to the scalp.  As you twist, start moving towards the back of your child’s head, gathering more hair as you go.  Secure with a barrette at the crown of the head.

Step 3:  If you decide to make it a true Double Twist, replicate the twist on the other side of your child’s head and secure with a barrette.

Wrapped PonytailSoCozy Wrapped Ponytail

For slightly more complicated style, we’ve been doing Wrapped Ponytails for Greenleigh.  I love them because they’re easy, she likes them because they aren’t the same, old boring ponytail we’ve been doing for years.  And although it took me a while to get used to doing them, after a little practice they now take under 5 minutes so they’re perfect for school days. SoCozy Wrapped Ponytail Picture

Step 1 – Brush dry hair until smooth and make a high or low ponytail using a plain ponytail holder – BUT leave a 1-inch strand underneath the tail free from the holder.

Step 2 – Wrap the 1-inch strand around the base of the ponytail completely covering the ponytail holder.  I twisted the strand a bit before wrapping it and had better results.

Step 3 – Secure the end of the wrapped strand to the base of the ponytail using a bobby pin or tuck it under the ponytail holder.  Spray with SoCozy Behave to reduce fly aways.

Knotted PigtailsSoCozy Knotted Pigtail Picture

This slightly more complicated style is my absolute favorite of them all.  It it’s a little smooth, a little messy, and a great twist on pigtails.  Quite literally, a twist.  Just make sure to use the SoCozy Detangler and a healthy dose of SoCozy Behave to make it come together!

Step 1 –  Brush dry hair until smooth.  Mist with water, until slightly damp.

Step 2 – Using a fine-toothed comb, part the hair down the middle of the head.  Using a comb or a brush, create ponytails on either side of your child’s head, behind and slightly above their ear.

Tip: I’ve found that this step goes so much easier if I’ve used SoCozy Detangler while their hair was wet!

Step 3 – Spray pigtails with SoCozy Behave and smooth over pigtails with your hands.  Once coated with SoCozy, begin twisting the pigtail, coiling it around itself until it forms a circle, then push the ends through the middle of the circle creating a knot.  Secure the knot using a pin.

Step 4 – Repeat on the other side.  For a neater look, tuck the ends under the knot; for a messier look, leave them loose (pictured).
