Real Clothes are Overrated

For months, Everett’s been living in his pajamas.  And people are starting to notice.  Wait, perhaps I should rephrase that, complete strangers are starting to notice.

“Awww…look at that big guy in his little pajamas,” said the guy behind me in the grocery store the other day.

Sir, he’s a baby.  He’s always in his pajamas.  And they fit fine.

What cute pajamas he has on!  Does he not wear big boy clothes?,” asked the nurse at the pediatricians office 2 weeks ago.

I agree, they’re adorable.  Why wear big boy clothes when he has such adorable pajamas?

“Oh look, he’s in his pajamas…again,” was how we were greeted at daycare on Monday.

I get it, he wears them a lot, but he looks so cute in them.  Let’s focus on that, shall we?

Of course, those are just the responses I say in my head, but based on the increasing number of comments I’m getting, I guess Everett’s officially reached the age and size where people expect to see him in clothes rather than a one piece sleeper.  But really, who has the time?  All those buttons.  All those snaps.  The onesie that will have to go over his head?  Yeah, I’m sure he’ll be a huge fan of that every morning.  And don’t even get me started on baby socks.

Real clothes are overrated.

Sleepers are just so much easier – one zipper, one snap, one adorable look.  No need to drop everything on a busy morning to search for a pair of oh-so-elusive baby socks…that he’s just going to pull off the second I put them on.  Besides, infancy is probably the only time in your entire life when you can wear pajamas absolutely everywhere and not be deemed a crazy person.  Why rush it?  I say, enjoy it.

But with Everett turning 5 months old this past Wednesday I thought it might be time to try out these “real clothes” that everyone seems to rave about.  It was still a one piece, but definitely more dressed up than he normally is.

And he actually seemed to enjoy it.

But let’s not get crazy, this was just a test.  Only a test.  He’ll probably be back in pajamas tomorrow.  Baby steps.
