Sun-Kissed in December with Snapper Rock {Review}

Okay, so I know people elsewhere in the country are going to hate me when I say this, but it’s quite warm here in South Florida.  Wait.  Forget “quite warm”, let’s just say hot.  Really hot.  It’s probably the hottest December that I can remember.  And yesterday afternoon when the kids begged to go into the pool, I really couldn’t think of a reason why not…other than it’s December and you really shouldn’t be able to go into the pool in December.  But a string of 80+ degree days meant that the water was no doubt warm enough and we were in the midst of yet another 80+ degree day.  Instead of fighting them, I decided to just go with it.  I also thought it would be the perfect opportunity for Greenleigh to try out her new Starfish Tankini from Snapper Rock.

You see, Greenleigh’s been begging me for a 2 piece bathing suit for…well…forever.  But my husband and I are pretty conservative when it comes to what she wears.  We don’t want her in a little bitty bikini at 4 years old, but the Snapper Rock Starfish Tankini seemed like the perfect compromise.  It consists of a racer back tank top and low rise boy shorts with a tie, giving her the 2 piece look that she wants but fully covering her tummy (which is what we want).  In fact, the boy shorts probably provide more coverage than her normal bathing suits.  And the cute starfish design was one that she picked out all on her own.

But the thing that I really like about Snapper Rock bathing suits is that they are UV50.  What does UV50 mean?  Basically, it means that it blocks 98% of harmful UVA and UVB rays when your little one is out in the sun.  As parents, we do our best to protect our kids from the sun – we slather on sunscreen and put our kids in hats and sunglasses – but wouldn’t it be nice to have an extra layer of protection?  That’s exactly what Snapper Rock does.  It’s an extra layer of protection.  A layer of protection that can’t wash off like sunscreen or get tossed to the side like hats and glasses.  And with childhood sunburns being a leading cause of skin cancer later in life, it’s an extra layer of protection that shouldn’t be overlooked.

Greenleigh was ridiculously excited the day her bathing suit arrived.  Made of 80% Nylon and 20% Elastane, this bathing suit is designed to be extra lightweight, breathable, and soft, and in the first few moments after opening the package, I could tell that it more than fit that bill.  But while the material is lightweight, it’s thick enough not to be transparent, the way some other white bathing suits can be.  I held my breath a bit when she tried it on, because we ordered a size bigger than she normally wears (she’s right in the middle of a growth spurt, so I figured it was safer to go a little bigger than smaller), but sure enough, it fit like a glove.  If your child is between sizes, I wouldn’t hesitate to order the bigger size.  These suits really are designed to grow with them – Greenleigh has a bit of room to grow in this suit, but it fits great right now.

And then, without any delay, it was out to the pool for some fun…in December.  While I don’t know how much more we’ll be swimming this month, I can guarantee if we go back in the pool, she’s going to want to wear this bathing suit again!

Finally, Greenleigh has her big girl, 2 piece bathing suit, and I have peace of mind that regardless of the month, she’ll be sun-kissed not sunburned in her Snapper Rock tankini.

    Such a cute suit! I feel uncomfortable about a lot of the two piece suits available for little girls these days, its really great to see companies like Snapper Rock who manage to come up with designs that are age appropriate but still being cute, stylish and modern.

    Super cute! I’m in Florida too so I totally get it 🙂 It’s so hot here and we just took our little guy to the splash pad yesterday! I love the design of this suit and that it’s trendy but still age appropriate.

  3. Super cute! Love the colors. UV protection is swimsuits is such a great thing to protect not just little kids but us as adults is awesome. Nice to see Snapper Rock keeping modesty in their line for the little girls. The boys trunks are cute. My guys would wear them.

  4. Great suit! I love that they make modest 2-pieces for little girls AND that it’s UV coated. I use swim shirts for my little guy to get maximum coverage 🙂

    This is really cute! 2 pieces are so much more comfortable but there are so many immodest suits, even for little girls! This is the best of both worlds.

  6. What a cute outfit ! She is adorable
