Aimee’s Babies: Guiding You Through Your Little One’s First Year {Review & Giveaway}

When I was pregnant with Greenleigh I read everything I possibly could about pregnancy and labor and delivery.  I was constantly reading websites, books, and anything that I could get my hands on.  For me, knowledge was important and made me feel much more comfortable about the 40 weeks that lie ahead of me…not to mention that short stay in the hospital (my first hospital stay since I was born).

But then Greenleigh arrived.  And very soon after her birth, I realized that I hadn’t read anything about baby development.  Minor oversight.  Sure, we’d taken baby care classes so I knew how to change a diaper, but I didn’t have anything to reference in my own house for other things.  I remember frantically rushing out to the bookstore one day to pick up some books, only to find that I had no time to actually read them.  And any free time that I did have was spent sleeping, not reading.  I’d see other mothers talking online about their baby’s milestones and growth spurts, but I was always left wondering because I just wasn’t sure.  Back then, I would have paid a fortune for a DVD that I could slip into the DVD player and watch while I was feeding my infant or folding the never-ending pile of laundry.

But you don’t have to pay a fortune, because there’s a DVD out there that will guide you step by step through your child’s first year in about an hour – Aimee’s Babies First Year Milestones.  Broken up into 4 separate chapters, First Year Milestones breaks down your child’s development: Newborn, Three – Six Months, Six – Nine Months, and Nine – Twelve Months.  It will tell you all you need to know about your child’s sensory learning, milestones to look for, and even developmental exercises that you can do with your child.  This DVD has won praise from child care specialists, pediatricians, and everyone in between, so I was thrilled to get the opportunity to review it along with the Amiee’s Babies Baby Massage DVD.The DVD is narrated by Aimee herself and is crammed full of information.  I can honestly tell you that I didn’t expect it to pack so much information into such a short period of time – I mean, an hour isn’t all that long, right?  But I was wrong.  It gives you a great idea of what to expect at every stage and tells you how long each stage will last.  There numerous suggestions on how to work on skills and there are even demonstrations on exercises that you can do with your baby, no matter what their age.   It also points out the warning signs to look for if your baby isn’t progressing as normal.

You can watch the video all at once, like I did, or you can watch it in smaller segments (perhaps only focusing on your child’s age group and the one above/below it).  While there’s a ton of information packed into these DVDs, the presentation is very easy to understand.  Aimee talks to you, not at you.  I never felt spoken down to and felt like I had learned a ton by the time the one hour was over.  And at that point, the Baby Massage DVD was really just the icing on the cake, since I’ve always wanted to learn more about baby massage (I declined taking a class on infant massage when Greenleigh was 2 months old and I always regretted passing up the opportunity).

These DVDs would make a great gift for any soon-to-be mom, but First Year Milestones would be especially good for a first time mom or mom that’s had a few years between having her babies.  I found it to be a great and thorough refresher course, especially about the newborn phase (oh, how quickly we forget!).  It would also make a great baby shower gift.  Okay, it won’t get the “ohs” and “ahs” that those cute little clothes get, but trust me, that mom will thank you later!

You can purchase Aimee’s Babies DVDs on their website – either by ordering the DVD or a purchasing an instant download.  Should you opt for the download route, you can decide to purchase the entire program or only the age ranges that you need.
