From New York to Texas to California to The Carolinas, my family is all over the map. And as much as we’d all like to be together this holiday season, there are just too many of us for that to actually happen. Everyone has their own traditions and activities in their own homes and towns. Despite the fact that we can’t be together, I want my family to know that I’m thinking about them. Year after year, I send cards and gifts, but it’s hard to know someone’s exact taste when you don’t see them all that often or when they have everything, which is why I’ve recently fallen in love with edible gifts, like gift trays from Nutty Guys, Inc.
Started by 2 college roommates in 1999, Nutty Guys, Inc. offers a variety of custom gift boxes, trays, crates, and boxes, along with holiday gifts, filled with – you guessed it – nuts! But if you don’t like nuts, that’s okay, because they have a variety of dried fruits, seeds, candies and trail mixes to choose from. While they’ve grown quite a bit since their humble beginnings (now having distributors in 13 locations), their focus stays the same – freshness. The Nutty Guys want to make sure the food you receive is as fresh as possible, and to achieve that goal they keep a low inventory. Less inventory on hand means that the gift tray you receive hasn’t been sitting on the shelf in a warehouse for months before they send it to you, and it’s very possible that the chocolate covered nuts in your tray were covered on Monday and sent to you on Friday.
Although it was a tough choice, for my review I selected the 7 compartment candy tray and a 4 compartment nut tray, both of which arrived at my house in record time. I primarily picked the candy tray for the Chocolate Caramels (one of my all time faves, right there next to Vanilla Caramels), but it also contains Gummi Bears, Boston Baked Beans, Chocolate Cinnamon Bears, Gummi Peach Rings, Butter Toffee Peanuts, Chocolate Raisins. And while I’m not big on nuts, I often find myself putting them out when we have company, so I figured the 4 compartment tray containing Cinnamon Toffee Almonds, Roasted Salted in shell Pistachios, Roasted Salted Whole Cashews and Deluxe Mixed Nuts would be the perfect variety for anyone that stopped by.
These trays were only in my house for a minute (tops!) before they were ripped open – so much for saving them for company! The candy tray was the first to be sampled and received glowing reviews from both of my girls, with the Gummy Peach Rings being their favorites. I stuck to the Gummi Bears and Caramels, which were delicious as well. I then sampled the nut tray, since Greenleigh has an allergy, and the Cinnamon Toffee Almonds were pretty darn delicious. Nutty Guys commitment to quality and freshness was in each and every single bite – Maybe I should confess at this point that there’s not much left of either of these trays and that “company” I was hoping to save them for never really had a chance…
While I didn’t do an official gift guide this year, if I had, Nutty Guys would definitely be on the list. It’s perfect to send to someone as a gift, bring with you to a party, or have on hand in your own home for company that always seems to stop by at this time of year.
