Tria Beauty: Laser Hair Removal At Home! {Review}

I absolutely hate having to plan what I wear around stupid things like shaving.  And while sleeveless shirts in most parts of the country are being put into storage, that’s not the case here in South Florida.  I have to worry about what I wear pretty much year round.  Recently, I’ve heard tons of ads for those laser hair removal centers, and sure, I’ve thought about it, but who has the money?  That stuff can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars.  And of course, those places are only open during the day, so I’d have to take off time from work or leave my kids to attend the sessions.  Not going to happen.   So when I met the ladies from Tria Beauty at BlogHer this past August, I was like – Sign me up!  Sign me up NOW! (Looking back, I might have scared them a little with my enthusiasm.)

The Tria Hair Removal Laser is the very first at home laser hair removal system that guarantees permanent results.  In fact, you might see results in as little as little as 2 sessions.  It’s virtually the same as the laser systems used in those big offices, but at a fraction of the price and no trips to a health or beauty center are needed.  It’s safe and has been cleared by the FDA and Health Canada.  And best of all, it comes with a 90 day guarantee.  If you’re not happy, you get your money back.

Permanent results at home for a fraction of the price.  See why I was excited?

How do you use one of these nifty devices you ask?  It’s so easy.  To turn it on, you press the green button on the top of the device.  The screen will light up, but the device is locked.  To unlock the device, place the bottom of the Tria laser on the skin that you want to treat.  The sensor in the bottom of the device will make sure that the skin is appropriate to be treated and unlock after a second.  Due to higher amounts of melanin in medium brown, dark brown, and black skin, the Tria is not to be used for those skin tones, and therefore will not unlock if placed on an area where that skin tone is present.  It will unlock for those with white, ivory, beige, and light brown skin tones.  Once unlocked, you’ll need to adjust the strength of the laser you’re using (the bubbles labeled 1-5 on the top of the device) by lightly pressing down on the green button that you used to turn it on.  It’s suggested that you use the highest possible setting to get the best results, but it’s all about what your skin can tolerate.  I, personally, use a 3.  Any more than that, and the treatment gets uncomfortable.  Not painful, just uncomfortable.

Once you’ve selected your setting, you’re ready to begin!  Treat your skin by applying the pointy “nose” of the Tria directly onto the skin that you want to be hair free.  If you look at it, you’ll see a small beam of light come out – that means it’s working.  Once treated, the device will beep.  Lift the device up, move a little bit, and apply it to a nearby area of skin.  Wait for it to beep.  And continue until every bit of skin in the area has been covered.  You can also slide the Tria across the area that you want treated.  I found this to be more time efficient, just make sure you listen for the beeps.  Treat your skin once every 2 weeks for 6 months, and that’s it – you’re on your way to permanent results.

I started using my Tria a little over 2 weeks ago on my underarms, so I don’t have much to report yet.  My treatments have been quick (about 5-10 minutes) and painless.  I’ve even been able to use it in the mornings as I’m getting ready for work – it’s that fast!  I’ve experienced a bit of redness under my arms after completing a treatment, but 10 minutes later it was gone.  And I didn’t feel anything after the treatment was completed.  It’s really been a great experience so far.

I’m really excited to see the results and share them with you over the next couple months.  Stay tuned!

    Glad to read a review of this! My husband would love to have laser hair removal but I can’t even comprehend how much it would cost on his back alone!

    Shaving is such a pain! I hope this works, looking forward to reading about your progress

  6. Tara says:

    Love that it is painless. I hated shaving my legs as a teenager. Wearing glasses it was difficult to do in the shower when I couldn’t wear them. At least now they have razors with built in shaving soap blocks

    I have had a no no for months, but am scared to use it. with this laser one, do you have to shave or trim the hair first. Is the hair going away as you use it? do you use it on hairy underarms and then shave the rest or what?? I don’t want to shell out more money for something that does not work. How often do you have to use it?

      Hi Nancy! I think I’m due for an update post on how things are going with my Tria, but to answer your questions… Yes, you do need to shave before you use the Tria. The surface that you are going to treat should be shaved, clean, and dry. You have to use it once every two weeks, which isn’t a lot, especially when you consider that it only takes me around 5-10 minutes to do my underarms. It’s not a huge investment of time. I’m going to work on an update post because I am getting such great results with my Tria that it’s time to follow up, but until then, if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

    Hey ladies,
    I just got my Tria, started on my lower leg at level 4. For me the levels are 1 (nothing) to 5 (F*CK!!!!). It’s not painless unless you are at a low setting. However I did test it on my knee and upper thigh and it was pretty much painless as compared to the lower half. I’m excited to see how it works, I plan on doing most of my body since I shave so much. I have dark coarse hair that grows super fast.
