When Greenleigh turned about a year old, she started getting attached to a white blanket that our friends had given us for our baby shower. I found it adorable and a bit nostalgic, considering that I too had an almost identical white blanket that I was attached to as a child. Now, almost 2 years later, I find the attachment to be a little less adorable. Of all things, the blanket is white, making it impossible to keep clean for more than a day. I mean, if she didn’t carry it around the house with her, it would be fine, but she insists on carrying it everywhere. Her white blanket isn’t allowed to leave the house, unless it’s on a trip with us, which is when it gets really dirty. It’s washed regularly but after years of love, it’s turning a very special, loved shade of gray. I wouldn’t dare throw it out (that’s what happened to my white blanket, and I’ve never let my mom live it down), but all of this caused me to look for an alternative for Hazeline fairly early on.
I remembered that some friends of ours had lovey for their daughter who was around the same age as Hazeline. Theirs had a little animal head on the top, but I had tried those with Hazeline before, and she didn’t seem to have much long-term interest. I needed something that would keep her attention, so I headed over to Etsy to see what other options were out there. I knew that I wanted something that wasn’t white, could be carried easily without dragging, and had more than one texture. I needed to have at least one very soft side, because Hazeline likes to put a blanket against her face when she is going to sleep. After searching through pages and pages of lovey options, the only one that would do was from Little Peeps Design.
I think it was the bright colors that drew me into the Little Peeps shop at first, but once I was there, I was hooked. With a full collection of blankets, burp cloths, wash cloths, changing pads and more, the selection couldn’t be better. I loved all of their modern fabrics, and it was really hard to narrow down the choices and select only one. Their prices are amazing too. So reasonable, especially considering each item is handmade and can be customized.
In the end, I settled on the Spring Flower Taggy Lovey because it had everything I needed. The beautiful, bright spring flowers are on an off-white background, which should help hide the dirt a bit. I know it’s going to get dirty, but let’s try to conceal it a little, shall we? Hopefully, the off white is going to do just that and if not, at least there are some bright flowers to distract from the dirt a bit. It’s a 13″x13″ square, which makes it perfect size for her little hands and nowhere near long enough to drag on the floor. And I just love that it comes with a plastic ring so I can attach it to the stroller, car seat, or where ever else I need to put it. But the most important part of this lovey for me has to be the different textures. The ribbons are a variety of eye-catching colors, and are a combination of satin and grosgrain. The pink side is chenille making it extremely soft, perfect for bedtime. Certain that I had found the perfect lovey, I made my purchase and waited by my mailbox.
Although Alexandra from Little Peeps Design is always happy to help with a custom order, all items in the Little Peeps shop are ready to ship, so I didn’t need to wait long. Hazeline’s lovey arrived quickly and I could barely hold myself back from ripping open the beautiful wrapping long enough to take a picture. The lovey was exactly as pictured and maybe even a little better. I couldn’t wait to give it to her the next morning.
I was a little nervous that Hazeline wouldn’t like it as much as I did, but she loved it! She enjoyed carrying it around by the ribbons and gnawing on the plastic ring (who knew that it doubled as a teether?). She noticed the pink chenille right away, and seemed to be very content flipping it from side to side, examining each of the textures. She clutched it as we were leaving the house for daycare, and played with it contently in the car. She became attached to this blanket much faster than I thought she would and even got a bit upset when I tried to take it away from her. I’m hoping that this will be her blanky of choice for years to come!
