After weeks of wondering what we were going to do with an infant and toddler on New Years Eve, we decided to attempt a party at a friend’s house. We knew it could be a disaster, but also knew that there would be other kids there, so we hoped for the best. Turns out, we were lucky – Hazeline fell asleep in the car on the way to the party and I was able to put her in the pack n’ play when we got there, which left us with only one child to run around after. The question was, how long would Greenleigh make it? Would she tantrum in the new year?
As luck would have it, Greenleigh had a fabulous time. She had a dance off in the backyard with another little girl, sang ’till she nearly lost her voice, and enjoyed way too much good food. As the ball dropped and we all started to count down to the new year, she was beaming. It was also at this point that I realized the “counting down” to something confuses her, and she only knows how to count up. As we counted 5-4-3-2… she struggled to correct us by counting 5-6-7-8… It wasn’t all perfect, but it was as close as it gets for a 2-year-old at a very late hour. She even slept in until almost 11am this morning!
Hopefully this luck is just a sign of great things to come. Happy 2012 everyone!

Actually….I’m pretty sure that I was holding Greenleigh during the countdown since she was my “official” New Year’s kiss and she joined the countdown pretty well I thought! How exciting for a 2 year old that everyone in the room (and on the TV) is shouting while practicing their counting right?!
